Friday Night Teen Learn to Ski and Snowboard Program - OR18010804

This winter join other teens (ages 12 to 17) for three Friday evening trips to Cataloochee Ski Resort for an evening of skiing or snowboarding. The program will meet three dates: 1/19, 1/26 & 2/2.

Cost is $175/ person, City Residents Receive a $10 Discount. Program fees include a lift ticket and transportation on a charter bus. All levels of skiers and snowboarders are welcome.

We will depart from the Stephens-Lee Center at 4:15pm, returning between 11-11:15pm.

Ski or Snowboard Rentals and progressive weekly lessons are also available (see additional program options for details and fees).

All participants are required to wear helmets while skiing or snowboarding. Helmets are available for an additional fee of $15 for the program.
You must provide all clothing necessary for this sport.

Registration opens Tuesday, November 28th at 9am.

Cancellations
A trip may be cancelled if there is inclement weather that would make driving unsafe or if there is not enough snow on the mountain to run the trip. We will notify participants if a trip is cancelled by email no later then 1:00pm the day of the trip. If a trip must be cancelled, we have one back up date planned for 2/9/17. Please note that we sometimes must ski in rainy and cold conditions. If for some reason you personally cannot make a trip, there will be NO make-up session available.

Supervision
At least two staff from Asheville Parks and Recreation will be supervising each trip to Cataloochee. Staff is responsible for checking teens onto the bus, helping the teens with their equipment, directing teens to their lesson, and making sure teens return equipment and get on the bus for the trip home. THERE WILL BE NO CONSTANT SUPERVISION ONCE THE SKIING/SNOWBOARDING SESSION STARTS. However, staff will be available to handle any emergencies or problems that may arise while at the ski area.

Senior Treks is a low-impact hiking club, offering leisurely-paced hikes for adults 50+. Bring lunch, water, good walking shoes and proper clothing. Must be in good physical condition to participate. Transportation is provided.

Participants must register for each trip individually. Click on a specific hike for additional details about the trail location and drive time.

• Meet at Oakley Recreation Center 749 Fairview Road at 9:30 am.
• Pre-registration required.
• Van Fee: $5/trip.

Caving & Bat Ecology with WNC Nature Center

Join us for a day caving in Eastern Tennessee as we learn about bats and cave ecology. Transportation, helmets and headlamps will be provided. Participants will be sent a recommended clothing list and should pack water and lunch. All youth under 18 must register with an adult. Participants should be in good physical condition; cave conditions are slippery w/ uneven terrain. Participants will need to maneuver and climb over obstacles.

Youth under 18 must register with a participating adult. Adults 18+ may register on their own.

Youth Outdoor Adventures (Spring) - OR18020808

Youth Outdoor Adventures are offered 1-2 times per month on evenings and/or weekends. Program themes varies and highlight a variety of ways for kids to get active outdoors in the Asheville area.

Most programs are offered at the beginner level and require no prior experience to join the fun.

Ages for programs may vary based on the activity being offered. While most programs are just for youth, some programs require youth to sign up with a parent/guardian to help support the activity.

Space may be limited based on the activity being offered. Preregistration is required for all programs.

Interested in camping with your family but aren’t sure where to start? Join us for a family friendly introduction to camping everyone will enjoy. We’ll provide select camping equipment including tents, fun activities, dinner, breakfast and campfire fun. Participants bring bedding, personal items and snacks.
