Adaptive Outdoor Adventures Hiking - OR19011614

Come enjoy the fresh morning air exploring along a local trail each month. This hike is geared specifically for persons 18+ involved in the therapeutic recreation program. Be sure to pack your lunch and water bottle for a snack stop along the way.

The hike location will be selected three days before the hike to meet the abilities of the persons registered.

RSVP by 3 days before the event.
Location: Meet at Stephens Lee Center, group will travel by van to the hike location

Join us for an afternoon of climbing on the Montford Wall. 1st time climbers welcome. The second hour we’ll double the fun & light up the wall with black lights. Suggested that participants wear white or neon colors. RSVP by 3 days before the event.

Adaptive Outdoor Adventures Spring Break Biking on the Swamp Rabbit Trail - OR19021617

We’ll head south near Greenville, SC and catch the Swamp Rabbit Greenway. We’ll bike along the trail & enjoy some outdoor adventures & a picnic in the park. We have a trailer to haul bikes and gear. Riders should bring their own bike/helmet in good condition. A limited number of bikes may be available with advance notice.

Outdoor Adventures is a collaboration between Therapeutic Recreation and Outdoor Recreation programs for individuals ages 6+ with disabilities. For more information, call the TR Staff at 828-775-3153.

TR Adapted Basketball Winter 2019 - TR19011602

Basketball
January 12-February 16; 2:30-5:30pm
This non-competitive basketball program is designed for individuals ages 6+ with disabilities. Players will learn basic basketball skills while having fun. Registration begins in November.
Location: Montford Recreation Center
Fee: $45 (Asheville City residents receive a $5 discount!)


For All Therapeutic Recreation Events/Activities

You can reach the TR Program staff at (828) 232-4529 or trprogram@ashevillenc.gov. All activities, events, and programs are specifically for individuals who meet the following eligibility requirements:

· Must be able to work in a group setting.
· Ability to follow program rules, converse with others in a respectful manner, respect personal space of others.
· Maintain personal care needs independently (including administering medication, toileting, and eating).
· Able to understand basic communication (making needs/wants known).
· Demonstrate basic social skills (interact with peers).
· Must not have a history of violence against themselves or others.
The LRT/CTRS is unable to provide one-on-one supervision, however we will try to meet each participants needs. If participant does not meet eligibility requirements, they can participant in programming if they have their own support staff.
